Perspective

I have never had the desire to run a marathon....never ever ever....that sounds grueling to me. Like the saying goes, if you ever see me running...its probably away from something terrible so you might want to join me! All the training you have to do to prepare...you really have to have a strong desire and will power to accomplish this. I have had a few girlfriends who've done it, and when they tell me they have signed up for one I smile politely and tell them you go girl, (but secretly I think they are crazy for signing up for something like that willingly).   But I'm sure the feeling you have once you've crossed the finish line is like no other.

This gives me perspective on what some women think about natural good ol' fashioned unmedicated childbirth, because is practically the same thing.  I've gotten many of the polite smiles with the "your nuts" thoughts that their eyes give away.  So I get it, its not for everybody. And like I say..You do you, and I'll do me!

But I've never had the desire to birth any other way, this could stem from the gentle guidance from my Mother...and for those of you who know my Mother the phrasing "gentle guidance" will give you a tickle....

Some things to consider when tossing around the idea of an unmedicated birth...

Read some birth stories- from both perspectives

Read a book!
The book I read was "The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth"

Dont be fooled by the fear of pain
Here's a secret...there will be pain, maybe before, might be during, and probably after...
no matter what route you pick!
Dont let your fear of pain be the deciding factor of the details of your birth...there's so much more to consider for you and your baby!  Establish to yourself "yes there will be pain, but its only temporary and its for a purpose"  and then free yourself of the fear! Envision to yourself what your ideal birth scenario would be, where would you be most comfortable? Who would be there to comfort you? What music would be playing? How would the lighting be? What would the atmosphere be like? What snacks & drinks would you enjoy?
Then smile your sweet little smile, bat your eyelashes.... AND DEMAND IT!
And if anyone tells you "NO" just knock them in the head with your babybelly (not too hard though) and find someone that will tell you "YES"!
